阿莫西林克拉维酸钾-Amoxicillion Clavulanate Potassium
⸻
Amoxicillin-Clavulanate Potassium
General Information
For general information on amoxicillin—including adverse reactions, contraindications, overdose, drug interactions, and monitoring parameters—please refer to the previous amoxicillin section.
⸻
Storage
Store in a sealed container below 24°C. Clavulanate potassium is hygroscopic and should be kept dry. Prepared oral suspensions can be stored refrigerated for up to 10 days.
⸻
Pharmacology / Indications / Pharmacokinetics
Clavulanate has low antibacterial activity when used alone. It is currently used only in fixed-dose combination with amoxicillin (oral) or ticarcillin (injectable). Although in vitro susceptibility testing may show activity, staphylococci resistant to penicillin (e.g., oxacillin-resistant) are usually resistant to amoxicillin-clavulanate as well.
When combined with amoxicillin, clavulanate provides weak synergistic action against amoxicillin-sensitive bacteria but can improve efficacy against strains resistant to amoxicillin due to β-lactamase production.
Amoxicillin-clavulanate tablets and oral suspensions are commonly used in dogs and cats for urinary tract, skin, and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria. They are also used for periodontal infections in dogs caused by sensitive bacteria.
⸻
Dosage and Administration
All doses refer to the combined amount of amoxicillin and clavulanate, unless otherwise specified.
Dogs
For infections caused by susceptible bacteria:
•13.75 mg/kg, orally, every 12 hours; do not exceed 30 days of treatment.
For urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria:
•12.5 mg/kg, orally, every 12 hours, for 5–7 days.
For deep pyoderma caused by susceptible bacteria:
•12.5 mg/kg, orally, every 12 hours, for 14–120 days.
For systemic bacteremia:
•22 mg/kg, orally, every 8–12 hours, for 7 days.
Note: continue treatment for at least 2 days after clinical symptoms resolve.
For Gram-positive bacterial infections:
•10 mg/kg, orally, twice daily.
For Gram-negative bacterial infections:
•20 mg/kg, orally, three times daily.
For non-superficial pyoderma:
•10–25 mg/kg, orally, twice daily, for 3–6 weeks.
•Maximum dose: 650 mg twice daily
•If no improvement after 1 week, increase to three times daily
•If no effect by the end of week 2, discontinue treatment
